Ways to Leverage a Consultant

Consultants Lead Change Part-Time

This past week, Growth for Good provided transition consulting in multiple ways. We consulted an interim COO at Red Hook Initiative that we helped place. We proudly continued to support The Bronx Community Foundation as they move to be staff-led. Katherine DeFoyd has been serving as the interim development director on Town Hall’s capital campaign. Claudia Zeldin stepped in as Youth Communication’s interim executive director…

The common thread of everything that we do as consultants is we advise nonprofit leaders and boards on managing change and we do it all part-time.

Although some assignments are to “keep the trains running,” we are always building capacity. We are always consultants dedicated to strengthening our clients’ ability to better serve their missions.

Ways to Leverage a Consultant

If you are considering hiring a consultant to provide interim support through a staff transition, a campaign, or an event push, or because you need outside expertise, make it a point to leverage the value that an outside advisor can:

  • Provide a fresh energy and perspective to your management and operations team
  • Provide quick assessment based on the knowledge and professional experience of having worked with 100+ other nonprofits
  • Recommend specific adjustments, procedures, structures, and strategies that can improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Train and coach your board and staff in strategic planning, fundraising, and marketing
  • Facilitate tough decision-making or discussions between staff and board that will lead to a shared vision for the future
  • Support leadership development and succession with the candor that only an outsider can bring
  • Share templates for planning, reporting, and/or defining roles that will lead to improved accountability
  • Strengthen an organization’s sense of purpose and commitment among key stakeholders – always encouraging greater engagement and commitment
  • Implement best practices in governance, donor stewardship, talent management, volunteer engagement, and more!

We are eternally grateful to work with nonprofits that are committed to improving and making a bigger impact in their community and the world. Many thanks to our clients for seeing our Growth for Good team as partners and entrusting us to help you “grow for good”!
